Bone Densitometry (DEXA)

Loss of bone mass, or osteoporosis, can occur in all adults as we age but most often affects women after menopause. An enhanced x-ray (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry or DEXA) is a quick and painless procedure to measure bone density, usually from images of the lower the spine and hips.

Bone density scans, by revealing the amount of bone loss and resulting fragility,
allow your doctor to assess the risk of fractures and develop a treatment plan. The effectiveness of treatment can then be measured with follow-up scans.
